Twelve days. The full Sri Lanka, with kids.

This is the longer family tour. Take the 9-Day Family Explorer and add three more days for the things kids love most: a sunrise jeep safari at Yala (leopards, elephants, sloth bears), a full beach week instead of two rushed nights, and proper time at every stop so no day is purely about the car. Twelve days fits most school holidays and gives families enough downtime that nobody ends the trip exhausted. Same family-friendly pacing as the 9-Day, scaled up.

• Day 2: Sunrise Sigiriya climb + Dambulla caves + pool afternoon
• Day 3: Drive to Kandy via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
• Day 4: Kandy: Temple of the Tooth + Royal Botanical Gardens
• Day 5: Scenic train to the hill country
• Day 6: Ella: Little Adam's Peak hike + Nine Arch Bridge
• Day 7: Drive to Yala; afternoon safari
• Day 8: Sunrise safari + drive to the coast
• Days 9–11: South coast: beach days, Galle Fort, snorkelling, boat trips

The Moments That Will Stay With You (and Your Kids)

🏔️ Sigiriya climb at sunrise. The 1,200 steps are spread out in stages. Kids over 5 generally manage it. Start at 6:30 AM before the heat. UNESCO listed.

🐘 Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Established in 1975. The 10 AM and 2 PM river bathing is the big moment. If you prefer elephants in the wild, we substitute Minneriya National Park.

🌳 Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, Kandy. 60 hectares of lawns, giant fig trees, bamboo avenues, plenty of running-around space. A real relief after temple visits.

🚂 The blue train. Reserved 1st-class seats. About 3 hours, open doors, vendors with snacks. The highlight for most kids.

🥾 Little Adam's Peak in Ella. An hour up, an hour down. Easy enough for confident 7-year-olds, rewarding views from the top. Good legs-stretcher between train days and safari.

🌉 The Nine Arch Bridge. A 20-minute walk from Ella through tea plantations. Trains pass twice in the morning; get the kids to spot them rounding the curve.

🐆 Yala safari, two game drives. 979 km², one of the highest densities of leopards in the world. Open-top jeep, expert tracker. Two drives (sunrise + afternoon) dramatically increases sighting odds. Elephants, mongooses, peacocks all but guaranteed.

🏝️ Three nights at the south coast. Beach days, hotel pool, Galle Fort exploration, Mirissa whale watching (December–April), snorkelling at Polhena reef. The decompression days every family trip needs.

Why This Tour, Not the 9-Day

The 9-Day Family Explorer skips Yala (kids old enough often regret missing it) and gives you only two nights at the coast (often too short for tired families). Twelve days adds the safari and three real coast nights. If your kids are 7+ and you have the time, this is the better fit.
