21 Day Sri Lanka Grand Tour — Everything in One Journey
About This Tour
Twenty-one days. The grand tour: the whole island, both coasts, every UNESCO site.
This is Sri Lanka with nothing left out. Three weeks lets you do what no shorter tour can: see the entire country at a pace that matches it, both ocean coasts, both ancient capitals, two safari parks, the tea hills, the scenic train, the hill stations, Galle Fort and Arugam Bay both. By Day 21 you will not have seen a coach, climbed into a shared van, or rushed any single experience. You will have a complete picture of Sri Lanka. Not the brochure version, the real one.

The Moments That Will Stay With You
🏛️ Anuradhapura. Sri Lanka's first capital, founded in the 4th century BCE. UNESCO listed. The Jetavanaramaya dagoba was once the third-tallest building in the world.
🐆 Wilpattu safari. Sri Lanka's largest national park: 1,317 km², with a tenth of the jeep traffic of Yala.
🏔️ Sigiriya. The 5th-century rock palace of King Kashyapa. UNESCO listed.
🛕 Dambulla cave temples. Five rock caverns, 153 Buddha statues, 22 centuries of continuous Buddhist use.
🚴 Polonnaruwa. The medieval capital with the Gal Vihara: four colossal Buddha statues carved from a single granite outcrop.
⚓ Trincomalee. Natural harbour deeper than Sydney's, Fort Frederick on the headland, Nilaveli Beach stretching for 4 km.
🏄 Arugam Bay. One of Asia's most renowned surf destinations (May–October). Hammocks, fish curry, the kind of beach town where days dissolve.
🙏 The Temple of the Tooth, Kandy. Time your visit for the 6:30 PM puja.
🚂 The blue train from Nanu Oya to Ella. Reserved 1st-class seats. Three hours of tea country rolling slowly past the open doors.
🐆 Yala at first light. One of the highest densities of leopards in the world.
🏰 Galle Fort. UNESCO listed. Portuguese-built, Dutch-fortified, still a living town.
Why This Route, Not the 17-Day or 23-Day
The 17-Day Full Island includes everything in this tour except the east coast, Trincomalee and Arugam Bay. If those names don't mean anything to you yet, they will: Sri Lanka's quietest beaches, very different in feel from the south coast. The 23-Day Ultimate Luxury adds Sinharaja rainforest, Knuckles trekking, and longer stays at top-tier hotels. A different kind of trip. Twenty-one days is the one we book travellers on when they say "I want everything."
A Note on Pacing
Twenty-one days does include some long drives. Trincomalee to Arugam Bay is 4 hours, Arugam Bay back inland to Kandy is 6 hours. We schedule these as travel days with stops at interesting spots along the way (a tea factory, a less-known temple, a kade for short eats). The rest of the trip is at proper Sri Lanka pace, slow enough to feel where you are.
