About This Tour
Three days on the south coast. No itinerary, no early starts, no driving.
This is the decompression tour. Land in Colombo, get driven straight to the coast, and spend three days doing whatever the south coast does to you. UNESCO Galle Fort if you feel like a wander. Mirissa beach if you feel like a swim. A whale watching boat at dawn (December–April) if you feel ambitious. Otherwise, nothing: fish curry at a beach shack, a long massage, the Indian Ocean on your feet. It is the perfect end to a Maldives leg, the perfect weekend escape from Singapore or Dubai, or the perfect first taste of Sri Lanka before you come back for the full island.
Your Route
- Day 1: Colombo Airport → drive to south coast (~2.5 hr); afternoon at the beach
- Day 2: Free day: Galle Fort walk, Mirissa whale watching (seasonal), or just the beach
- Day 3: Late morning at the coast → drive to airport

The Moments That Will Stay With You
🏰 Galle Fort. Built by the Portuguese in 1588, fortified by the Dutch through the 17th century, UNESCO listed and one of the best-preserved sea forts in South Asia. Inside the ramparts, it is still a living town: bakeries, mosques, churches, art galleries, schoolchildren cycling to class. Sunset from Flag Rock Bastion is the right way to end Day 1 or 2.
🐋 Whale watching at Mirissa (seasonal, Dec–April). Few places on Earth offer more dependable blue whale sightings. Dondra Point sits at the edge of a narrow continental shelf where the deep ocean is only a short boat ride away. Blue whales, the largest animals that have ever lived (up to 30 metres long, 200 tonnes), pass through these waters December to April with roughly a 90% sighting rate at peak. 🏝️ Mirissa & Weligama beaches. Crescents of golden sand under coconut palms. Mirissa has the famous "Coconut Tree Hill" viewpoint and a small night market. Weligama is wider, calmer, and one of the best beginner surf beaches in Asia, where boards rent for $10/day.
