About This Tour
A full week on the south coast, for travellers who don't want a tour. They want a holiday.
Most Sri Lanka itineraries are tours: itineraries, packed mornings, the next hotel by lunch. This isn't that. This is one south coast hotel base, seven days, and as much or as little as you feel like doing: Galle Fort one afternoon, Mirissa beach the next, a whale boat at dawn if you wake up early enough, a Tangalle day trip if you fancy a wilder coastline. Your driver-guide is on call throughout. He'll drive you to a beach you haven't heard of and pick you up six hours later.
Your Route
- Day 1: Colombo Airport → south coast (~2.5 hr); afternoon settled in

Days 2–6: Five free days. Suggested loose plan:
- Galle Fort walk + sunset (full day)
- Mirissa whale watching morning + beach afternoon (seasonal, Dec–April)
- Weligama beginner surf lesson
- Tangalle / Hiriketiya day trip (quieter coast)
- One genuine do-nothing day
- Day 7: Morning at the coast → drive to airport

The Moments That Will Stay With You
🏰 Galle Fort. Founded by the Portuguese in 1588 and fortified by the Dutch; UNESCO listed. The walls enclose a town that never stopped living: bakeries, mosques, art galleries, sunset on the ramparts.
🐋 Whale watching at Mirissa (seasonal, Dec–April). Among the most reliable blue whale waters anywhere. Dondra Point sits at the edge of a narrow continental shelf, and blue whales (up to 30 metres long) pass through these waters December to April with roughly a 90% sighting rate at peak. Expect sperm whales and spinner dolphins in supporting roles.
🏄 Weligama beach. One of the best beginner surf beaches in Asia. Long shallow break, sandy bottom, lessons for $25 with the local instructors. Even if you've never surfed, by the end of an afternoon you'll be standing up.
🏝️ Hiriketiya & Tangalle. Forty minutes east of Mirissa lies a quieter, wilder coastline of small horseshoe bays, fewer crowds, better food than the tourist strip. Spend a day, see why the in-the-know travellers come here.

Good to Know
- One hotel base means no packing every other day. We recommend Mirissa, Weligama, or a Hiriketiya boutique stay; your driver-guide will run you anywhere on the coast.
- Whale season runs December–April. Outside this window, the boats may not run reliably; we substitute a Bentota river safari or longer day at Galle.
- Surf is most reliable November–April on the south coast.
