Sigiriya and Dambulla Day Tour Sri Lanka — Climb UNESCO Lion Rock

About This Tour
One long day. Sri Lanka's two most iconic UNESCO sites, the rock fortress and the cave temples, from anywhere on the western or southern coast.
This is the day-trip option for travellers based in Colombo, Negombo, Kandy, or Bentota who don't have multi-day Sri Lanka time but cannot leave without seeing Sigiriya. We pick you up before dawn, climb the rock as it opens, do Dambulla after the climb when the heat starts, and have you back at your hotel by early evening. It is a long day (there is no avoiding that), but it is the most efficient way to put both sites into your trip if Sri Lanka is a stopover rather than the main event.

What You'll See
🏔️ Sigiriya. A 180-metre granite monolith carved into a palace by King Kashyapa in the 5th century. Kashyapa was the parricidal king who built this stronghold to keep his enemies out. UNESCO listed in 1982. The climb is 1,200 steps and takes 45–75 minutes. Halfway up are the frescoes of celestial maidens, painted directly onto the rock face; they predate Michelangelo by a thousand years.
🛕 Dambulla cave temples. Five rock caverns gilded with 153 Buddha statues and 2,100 square metres of painted ceiling. In continuous use as a Buddhist sanctuary for 22 centuries, established by King Valagamba in the 1st century BCE during his exile. Cave 1 holds a 14-metre reclining Buddha carved from the living rock.
